Peering Up the Trouserleg of Giants: First Draft? Check!

Well, colour me de-light-ed, Gentle Reader! I've finished the first draft of my urban fantasy satire, Peering Up the Trouserleg of Giants.

Trouserleg of Giants began as a NaNoWriMo adventure in 2010. NaNoWriMo is a month-long competition, that challenges writers to create a 50,000 word novel from scratch in the month of November.  (Find out more about NaNoWriMo here.)

Why not try something completely different this year? I thought. After all, it's only for 30 days - nothing ventured, nothing gained. I decided that I'd like to try writing humour - after all, what's more rewarding than putting a smile on someone's face?

Owing, I think, to the large amount of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams I'd ingested over my reading life, I opted for urban fantasy satire. All it took was a surfeit of reality TV one night, and my concept was born. After thirty days I just scraped over the 50k mark, although a good portion of that ended up being cut as I continued work on the first draft.

At 70,000 words and still in first-draft form, Trouserleg of Giants is some months from the finished product. But, if you're interested, check out the back-cover blurb here.

I have only one word to say to you Charlotte and it's 'I told you so' actually that's 1, 2, 3, 4 words. Proud Mamas aren't always good at maths but they sure know how to breed good writers. X X X
